The OMG Family: A Legacy of Racing and Content Creation

Bill Hoskinson, the man behind The Old Man’s Garage YouTube channel, has spent his entire life immersed in hot rods, race cars, drag racing, and cruising. Raised on his family’s farm outside of Granville, Ohio, Bill developed a passion for engines at a young age. He taught himself how to tune carburetors on small engines like lawnmowers and tractors, setting the foundation for a lifelong love of automotive mechanics.

One of Bill’s most cherished memories is riding in the backseat of his parents’ black ‘55 Chevy while his dad shifted through the gears. This beloved car, which holds deep sentimental value for the family, is currently undergoing a full restoration. Although Bill’s father owns many antique cars, the ‘55 remains the most special, representing a legacy of craftsmanship and tradition that has been passed down through generations.

Bill’s passion for Novas was evident early on, owning several throughout high school. After graduation, he began building a Nova to compete in bracket racing. His dedication to racing only grew stronger with time. In 1994, he married his high school sweetheart, Vicki, and they purchased their home in 1996, where they raised their sons, Billy and Tommy. Throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, Bill had a successful local racing career in Ohio. Billy grew up watching his father race, often cheering him on from the stands while playing with Hot Wheels. This early exposure to the sport left an indelible mark on him, shaping his aspirations and fueling his own passion for drag racing.

In 2001, the family welcomed Tommy, further solidifying their love for racing as a family affair. As soon as the boys were old enough, they began racing Junior Dragsters. The thrill of competition and the hands-on mechanical experience helped both Billy and Tommy hone their skills from an early age. When Billy turned 16, he was eager to get behind the wheel of a real race car, making his first passes in his dad’s Nova.

Bill and Billy also shared a passion for S10 trucks, and during Billy’s high school years, they worked together to build what is now one of the most famous drag racing trucks in the country. Their countless late nights in the garage fine-tuning the truck not only strengthened their bond but also laid the groundwork for something much bigger.

Shortly after graduating, Billy launched Street Racing Channel (SRC), documenting the S10’s progress and quickly gaining a loyal following. His growing audience soon dubbed him “Billy The Kid.” His channel became a hub for racing enthusiasts, offering an inside look at not just the racing world but also the behind-the-scenes work that goes into building and maintaining high-performance vehicles. When Tommy finished high school, Billy brought him on board to travel, film, and edit for SRC, helping the channel expand even further. Tommy’s talent for video creation and editing played a major role in the success of their content. His ability to capture the intensity, excitement, and emotion of racing brought a new level of engagement to the channel.

With increasing interest in their racing and projects, the family decided to branch out into additional content. Bill launched The Old Man’s Garage channel, offering a more personal look into his day-to-day life, his own automotive projects, and his role in helping his sons. His unique storytelling style and relatability quickly made the channel a hit. Eventually, Bill scaled back his excavating business to focus full-time on The Old Man’s Garage. His channel resonated with a broad audience, as it showcased not just racing but also the trials and triumphs of a family deeply rooted in car culture.

The family’s third channel, Gen2Garage, was created by Tommy and his girlfriend, Allison, as a way to document their own racing journey together, further expanding the family’s reach in the automotive community. Their channel brings a fresh perspective to the sport, highlighting the next generation of racers and the evolution of the family’s passion.

Several key figures regularly appear across the channels, adding depth and personality to the content:

Uncle Bucko – Bill’s brother and a jack-of-all-trades, known for his quick wit and his relentless teasing of Bill’s shortcomings. His humor and hands-on expertise make him a fan favorite.

Chumpy at A1 Auto – The best parts guy in Buckeye Lake, keeping the family stocked with parts and helping manage their many automotive catastrophes. Without his ability to source hard-to-find components, many projects would grind to a halt.

Bob McVay at the Machine Shop – The go-to guy for engine work, always doing his best to keep up with the steady stream of builds coming his way. His precision craftsmanship and wealth of knowledge make him an invaluable part of the team.

Beyond the mechanics and racing, the Hoskinsons’ journey is about more than just cars—it’s about family, resilience, and a shared love for speed and craftsmanship. Their ability to turn their passion into a thriving content empire is a testament to their dedication and hard work. Whether it’s racing, wrenching, or just sharing life’s ups and downs, the OMG family continues to inspire and entertain gearheads across the world.

Through their YouTube channels, live events, and real-world racing endeavors, Bill, Billy, Tommy, and the rest of the team are shaping the future of grassroots drag racing, ensuring that the sport continues to thrive for generations to come. With their ever-growing audience and undeniable influence in the automotive community, the OMG family is just getting started.
